Camellias

Annie Hughes
July 21 and 22 ($215)

Originally from Santiago, Chile, Annie Hughes has become a popular botanical artist in Australia. Her paintings have been exhibited at the BASA annual exhibition twice, at Canberra Botanical and have also been seen at the BASA Wildflowers exhibition at Parliament House in 2006 and Botanica 2005, 2007, 2008. Her keen eye and sensitivity to texture has resulted in her being awarded the 1st Prize for Australian Natives and 1st Prize Peoples Prize both at BASA 2005. Her work is enjoyed in private collections in Australia, the USA and the UK. Annie’s Camellia paintings are almost perfect in their technique and presentation. This workshop is a wonderful chance to learn how to paint Camellias the ‘Annie Hughes way’.

Layering with drafting film

Dolores Malloni
October 20 and 21 ($215)

Dolores Skowronski-Malloni is an Argentinean Australian who has been practising as a botanic artist since 1993. Her work develops in a themed format, always searching for a new subject to challenge her audience. Three of Dolores original works are held in the State Botanical Collection at the National Herbarium of Victoria. Dolores has been recently commissioned to complete a series of pictures of Argentinean trees for the Argentinean Embassy in Canberra. This exciting workshop follows on from Dolores’ recent success with a series of Bonsai created by her using layers of pen and ink and watercolour on drafting film. Dolores will demonstrate this unique and new method so that students may apply it to their own botanical paintings. The workshop will possibly use a local collection of Bonsai plants as specimens for the paintings.

Eucalypts

Marta Salamon
November 24 and 25 ($215)

This Eucalypt workshop will be a brilliant way to understand and to interpret correctly the colours and form of Eucalypts. Marta spends much of her time painting Australian natives. Her beautiful Eucalyptus erythrocorys was the signature painting for Canberra Botanical 2010. Since 1996 she has been painting and exhibiting as a botanical artist. While Marta completed a Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Fine Arts her skills as a botanical artist were developed in classes with Jenny Phillips. Marta’s interest is predominantly in Australian plants particularly those which have originated in Western Australia and are now featured in streets and parks throughout this country. Eucalypts are a favourite not only for their stunning flowers but also for their fruits and bud forms. Marta’s medium of choice is generally a mixture of watercolour and gouache but she also uses pencils when working outdoors.
